From coast to coast, wrestlers all over the country travel to compete in the Walsh Ironman Tournament. This year, the well-represented Saegertown wrestling team participated in this event on Dec. 11 through Dec. 12. It is known as the number one ranked tournament in the country. It is held at Walsh Jesuit High School in Ohio. Last year, the panthers made a name for themselves  when graduate Dylan Reynolds took first place at weight 195lbs.

Saegertown traveled to the round robin for their third consecutive year, and they took fourteen starting varsity wrestlers. With the competition being fierce, many of the wrestlers valued the opportunity to take part in the meet.

“I feel honored to go and place. I think I’m gonna win it next year,” said sophomore Cody Mulligan who placed seventh at this year’s Ironman tournament. Senior Nick Monico was able to celebrate his 100th win during this year’s competition. Not only did Monico make it through to the second day, but Mulligan also made it through the first day’s challenges and both were able to compete in matches for the second day.

During the two day span of the tournament, the wrestlers made many memories. “The most memorable moment for me is when my dad and Mr. Bradshaw were yelling at me after I lost. The coaching experience is original and organic at tournaments,” said Mulligan. “It’s a good gauge to see where you’re at for the regular season known as March mattness,” said Monico.
