Did you know there are 3,077,405 people in the United States with the last name Smith?
Have you ever wondered how many people have your name? Well there’s multiple websites that can tell you this. Dumb.com/namedata is the most up-to-date one. It uses drivers’ licenses, birth certificates, and other sources to find the best estimate of people. This website not only tells you how many people have your first and last name, but also a celebrity with the same name. As of 2013 there are 7.125 billion people on earth, and as of 2014 318.9 million of those people live in the United States.
According to the Social Security Administration, the most popular male and female names from 1915 to 2014 are James and Mary. There are 4,999,186 James’s and 4,107,020 Mary’s in the United States. It’s crazy to think there’s someone out there with the same exact name as you. But this website allows you to see not only how many people have your name, but also how common your name is. It’s important to have some sort of identification card because there are so many people in the world with the same names.
Another website is howmanyofme.com. This website is just as neat and fun, but the 1990s was the last census to include all name data. “Always read the fine print,” said art teacher Mrs. Dani Shartle, when it comes to web sites like these. Everyone 26 years and younger is not fully in the database. According to The BabyCenter, almost 4 million babies are born each year in the United States, which means 104 million people aren’t fully in the database and many aren’t included in the website at all.
The National Archives releases census records to the public 72 years after Census Day. So, is it ever really possible to get the exact number of names currently? As of right now, the answer is no, but these websites are showing you the most up-to-date information released to the public.
