Most sports previews include a look at the past season for each team. What was their record? Did they make a deep run into the playoffs? Was anyone named to an all-state or all-district team? This year is different. There were no 2020 spring sports. COVID-19 cancelled everything. Now it is time for the much anticipated spring sports seasons to get underway.
The Panthers Baseball team is currently playing at the Cal Ripken Experience in North Carolina. Yesterday they played Toledo Christian, losing 12-7, and tomorrow they play Anthony Wayne at 9 a.m. Their first game is on April 7 at Cochranton at 4 p.m, and they will face Eisenhower at home on April 9 at 4:30 p.m. The team’s numbers look strong this season with two returning seniors Jaden Reagle and Foxx Mook, seven juniors, three sophomores, and three freshmen.
The boys volleyball team has had multiple scrimmages. Their first scrimmage was against Meadville, where they put up a good fight. Their second, against Cochranton. The team is looking confident and strong for this upcoming season. The boys placed second at the McDowell tournament on March 27, racking up wins against Altoona and CASH. Some key players to watch this season are three senior standouts: outside hitter Max Fuller, setter Logan Ingram, and libero Jake Reisinger.
Like the other teams, the softball ladies are hungry for success on the diamond. The team is under the direction of first year coach Jen Krider, and there are 18 ladies currently on the roster. Standout returning players include junior shortstop Brittany Houck and senior left fielder Sydnie Smith. The team’s first challenge will be when they travel to Rocky Grove on April 6 for a 4 p.m. game, and their home opener will be against backyard rival Maplewood on April 8 at 4:30 p.m. This year, the team is looking to be the epitome of competitiveness.
