With the year changing to 2023 that also means that the Chinese Zodiac will be changing as well. This year will be the year of the water rabbit, starting on Jan. 22, which is the fourth out of the 12 animals that represent the Chinese zodiac. The rabbit in Chinese culture is seen as a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity.
According to legend, the order of the Chinese zodiacs was decided by who won the race to the Heavenly Palace. On the day of the race, Rabbit left before Ox in order to get a head start, even though they agreed to start together. When Rabbit noticed that there were no other animals around, he decided to lie down and rest. Little did Rabbit know the other animals had begun to race. Rabbit waking too late arrived at the Heavenly Palace after Rat, Ox, and Tiger. This resulted in the year of the rabbit being the fourth of the 12 zodiacs.
2023 is seen as a year of hope in the eyes of the Chinese zodiac. Let’s hope that this year brings everyone peace and prosperity.
