On Jan. 31 a parent from the PENNCREST school district filed a RTK (Right To Know) request to get the updated list of the books that have been removed from the library to be reviewed under Policy 109.2, as well as all of the books that have been returned or officially removed.
PENNCREST Open Records Officer Christine Shields responded to the request in an email stating it would take up to thirty days to get an official list of all the books in its entirety because “The extent or nature of the request precludes a response within the required time period.”
According to librarian Mike Brennemen, “The Hunger Games” series by Suzanne Collins and “Speak” by Laurie Halse Anderson have been cleared and returned to the library shelves. He also shared that the three librarians are keeping track of books pulled for review.
While no books have been permanently removed at this time, “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen has been reviewed and not returned.
