The Academy Theatre presented their latest show, Frozen JR. from Dec. 8 to Dec. 17. The show was directed by Shannon Ordakowski and featured young actors and actresses in the area. Saegertown High School and Elementary had multiple students in the cast. From the high school: Jace Digicomo, Alyssa Whalen, and Ruby Retchloff. From the elementary: Erica Whalen, Avery Simmons, Lucas Muckinhaupt, Olive Zinz, and Khloe Russell.
“We were practically sold out for our first weekend, and this weekend is expected to sell even better. I’d say about 400 people average a show,” Digicomo said. “My favorite part of the show is probably ‘For the First Time in Forever’ because most of the cast is on stage.”
The show tells the tale of two sisters, Anna and Elsa, and their emotional relationship. When the newly crowned Queen Elsa accidentally uses her power to turn things into ice, she curses her home with infinite winter. Her sister Anna is determined to bring her sister back to stop it, meeting new friends and having the adventure of a lifetime along the way.
“A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, Frozen JR. expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa,” The Academy Theatre website said. “When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humor, Frozen JR. is sure to thaw even the coldest heart!”
The show included all of the songs from Disney’s animated film, such as “Let it go,” “Fixer-upper,” and more. The show’s music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, alongside five additional songs written for the Broadway production. The show was sold out for the majority of their performances, most notably opening night and closing night.
“My experience being a part of this cast has been great,” Whalen said. “The little kids in the show are so sweet and amazing, and watching them get up on the stage and put on such a great show is just amazing.”
