Annual Cheerleaders’ Bake Sale

Cookies, cakes, and all things baked, who doesn’t love sweet treats that benefit a good cause? The boys varsity basketball cheerleaders have started the annual tradition of a bake sale.
The idea to fundraise by hosting a bake sale was started in February of 2022 when the team wanted to do something to get everyone involved and raise money. Back in 2022, cheer coach Nerrissa Galt wanted to find a way to get all of the girls involved and able to fundraise. The team decided on a bake sale that they could host annually at Saegertown’s ‘The Factory Restaurant,’ owned by previous cheer captain Marylin Smith’s family.
“We thought it was something fun and different that everyone on the team could participate in,” Captain Claire Barickman said. “We decided to continue it this year because it has been so successful in the past.”
The bake sale is not all the team hopes to use as a resource for fundraising this year. They are also planning to sell school spirit bracelets during school hours to be able to reach an even larger audience and spread cheer throughout the school.
“We decided that this year especially we needed to try to do more things to further our program,” captain Alexis Clayton said, “and help us support the boys as much as we could.”
Bringing spirit to schools is a cheer team’s job, and the Saegertown basketball cheerleaders do it well. This year the cheer team has a total of eight girls all of whom are excited for the season to start. They had their first home game on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. Come out and support not only the basketball team but the cheer team, too.
