On Feb. 8, many students were given the opportunity to prepare for their future with mock interviews. Students prepared for these interviews by creating a resume and were paired with an interviewer based on their interest or career aspirations. The classes participating in the interviews were among the English department; Mrs. Cressman’s and Mrs. Mook’s.
“The mock interviews are an extremely important process to prepare students for the future,” Mook said. “Many local businesses volunteer their time and effort to assist in providing constructive feedback which is greatly appreciated.”
Saegertown had a variety of businesses and interviewers volunteer their time. They include: Michelle Sciallo (Wesbury), Christian Snyder (CATA), Malorie French (PA Department of Corrections), Jackie Roberson (FCCIA), Deb Anderson (LTI), Desiree Higley (Northern PA Regional College), Doug Nelson (Rosedale Tech), Trooper Schick (Pennsylvania State Police), Theresa Lugo (School Board member and EMTA), Missy Manning (PennWest Edinboro), Erin Sopher (ChannelLock), Tina Caldwell (Acutec Precision Aerospace), Cameron DeMaison (Acutec), and lastly Kyle Astor (Acutec and Engineer).
Students were both nervous and excited for the experience. “I really enjoyed the interviews because they provided me with good experience for the future,” junior Lindsey Greco said.
The mock interviews provide the students with an opportunity to practice, receive feedback, and ability to improve their skills. It also helps develop interview strategies, enhance communication skills, answer challenging questions, and ease the nerves that many experience during an actual job interview.

“Interviews are much like public speaking… the more you do them, the less apprehension you have towards them,” Cressman said. “The practice of those skills are not something that can be easily accessible, so the opportunity is invaluable.”
