Late February, Saegertown High School received five trophy cases donated by Allegheny College. You can find them currently lined up around the Panther Hallway awaiting to be filled.
“I work for Allegheny College in the maintenance department. We were cleaning some stuff out of the Y,” Wrestling coach Jimmy Mulligan said. “We were going to have to remove them, and I went to them and asked them if we could donate them to the school I coach at (Saegertown) and they said yea. Me and five buddies of mine, we got them out of the Y and made them here. They’re probably like $25,000 and $30,000 if you’d try to buy those new.”
Four of the cases have a more pentagonal-shape, having five glass pieces to look at trophies through and one wooden side that is pressed against the wall. The fifth trophy case looks almost identical to the other trophy cases the school has had in Panther Hallway for quite some time.

As for the plans for these cases, most of them are supposed to remain in Panther Hallway. “I want to talk with the boosters for the different sports teams,” Principal Dr. Howick said. “…I want to see if we can move the concession stands to the ticket booth and sort of have two trophy cases around it to draw better attention to them. But I won’t know until we talk to them.”
These cases are aimed to be filled with trophies and find their final placements in the school over the summer at the latest. The school is extremely thankful to Allegheny College for their donation and to Coach Mulligan for making this possible. We look forward to what our sports teams have planned for them in the future.
