While on her “GUTS” tour on the first night of Chicago, Olivia Rodrigo announced her deluxe album “GUTS (spilled).” She was performing her well known song “get him back!” and in the middle of the song her dancers held up signs of all the track names and she held a sign saying “GUTS DELUXE OUT FRIDAY” making the new deluxe album official.
This new rendition has one brand new track called “so american” and four tracks that were all “secret” tracks that happened to only be found on the original “GUTS” vinyl. The four vinyl tracks are “obsessed,” “girl i’ve always been,” “scared of my guitar,” “stranger.”
“Obsessed” is a total of 2 minutes and 49 seconds long. It’s a beat that won’t let you down. The song proceeds to put her in that place of having this very overwhelming feeling of jealousy of her lover’s ex. She initially talks about how perfect the ex is. All of the facts that the lover told her about his ex sticks to her mind and she can’t forget about them.
“girl i’ve always been” is a total of 2 minutes and 1 second long. This song gives off upbeat country vibes. In the song she explains how she’s her own person yet this other person is trying to tear her down and say she’s changing. She explains how she doesn’t think she’s perfect but has never changed.
“scared of my guitar” is a total of 4 minutes and 24 seconds long. While Olivia is struggling through hard times she pushes through hard times by lying to everyone saying that she is okay. One of her lines says, “ ‘cause it cuts right through to the heart…” It’s talking about when picking up her guitar to write it explains how all of her emotions spill out in such a raw way she has no way to make it stop. Having that happen makes her scared to face what she’s going through.
“stranger” is a total of 3 minutes and 13 seconds long. It talks about the feeling after a breakup and going no contact. All of her friends would say how through all the bad things the good things will come through. She says that at first it felt like she was missing half of her when trying to complete normal tasks. She explains how she used to do everything for a “stranger she knows everything about.” After all of the bad she is left with all of the good of loving herself.
“so american” is a total of 2 minutes and 50 seconds long. The song is very upbeat and happy. She announces that she’s in love with him because of all of his mannerisms. Olivia expresses how she could be around him no matter what because of how he makes her feel. It almost feels like she’s spilling out all of her emotions to one of her close friends about how she feels.
I personally really enjoyed all five tracks. They really fit the vibe of this whole album of “spilling her guts.” They all show her true emotions with the way she expresses them, the way the beat of the music is and how it flows with the tone of her voice.
