The Academy Theatre and Blackbox Theatre Group will be presenting the “Edge of Reality,” an original play by Saegertown alumni Nick Opsanic on Saturday, November 9th. This one-night, world-premiere performance will be held at the Academy Theatre in Meadville, 275 Chestnut St. Doors for the performance open at 7:30 P.M., and a QR code for SHS priority seating is attached.
According to show creator Nick Opsanic, “The ‘Edge of Reality’ is a one-act original musical play that features a one-night-only world premiere performance about the rise of Elvis Presley in the 50’s and his life starting from before anyone knew his name.” Opsanic continues, “This is a completely original and unique production with elements that will surprise and possibly even astonish audiences.”
General admission tickets are priced at $25 at the door, but ordering tickets in advance on The Academy Theatre’s website (www.theacademytheatre.org) will drop the prices to $22. In addition to this, students and faculty of SHS can use the QR code attached to this post to get a $10 discount when buying tickets in advance.
“My love for acting and entertaining in general was the major thing that inspired me to create this play,” Opsanic said. “I was researching Elvis almost three years ago and an idea sparked: ‘What if Elvis performed today, and how can we give people the experience of seeing Elvis live on stage?’” Of course, Opsanic took this question and turned it into the performance you can witness on November 9th.
“After this one-night-only world premiere event, this show is set to go on a one-year, east coast tour that will culminate in an off-off-Broadway venue,” Opsanic says. “Moreover, this original musical stage play is only the first in a series of five that will be produced over the next 10 years.”
Opsanic also discussed Saegertown’s role in the production. “When I did the Lip Sync Battle in December of 2023, the audience was filled with most of the students, teachers, and other school staff, and the overwhelming response that I got really encouraged me to do this show, so I would love for as many people from the school to see this show.”
