Spirit week is a favorite here at Saegertown. It is a great way to get students from all grades involved and a fun thing to look forward to. Usually, in a school year, there are many different spirit weeks, one of the most prominent being Homecoming spirit week.
At student council meetings, officers had all grade level reps submit ideas for spirit week themes. At the meeting, after their ideas were submitted, they then voted to find the top five themes for the week.
This year the themes for Homecoming spirit week were Country vs. Country Club on Monday, Fairytale on Tuesday which goes along with homecoming’s theme, Dynamic Duos on Wednesday, Anything but a Backpack on Thursday, and finally the classic Blue and Gold on Friday.
“This year we had lots of help making the spirit week themes thanks to all of our grade level reps,” Student Council President Camden Gjovik said. “We are really excited to get more of the school involved in decisions like this and we hope to keep it up throughout the school year, and hopefully bring up the school spirit while we’re at it.”
We asked students for ideas on future spirit week themes and the following are the results we collected: face painting again, pink out, color wars, twin day again, white lies, Hawaiian, dress like a celebrity, future careers, teacher and student swap day, Jersey day, camo day and pajama day.
We also asked students what they thought about this year’s Homecoming spirit week, and most students had fun and enjoyed it. Some thought it could be better, but out of the responses collected most enjoyed at least some of the days.
“I felt like spirit week brought the student body together as a whole and was very fun. I felt like Monday country vs country club wasn’t as good this year because it’s very plain,” Junior Luke Young said. “However, my favorite was anything but a backpack day to see all the unique ideas people have in our school and creativity that some people have.”
