It’s already been four years since the last election which means our next election is right around the corner. The election season brings many topics to question and is a fierce time of debate in our country. It is up to us as Americans to vote for the best suited candidate to lead our country for the next four years. It is also our duty to stay informed so that we can make the best decisions possible for our country.
The election always has the two main parties, the Democrats and the Republicans. Republicans stand for freedom, prosperity, opportunity, individualism, traditionalism, and republicanism. Republicans typically support gun rights, the death penalty, restrictions on abortion, school choice and school prayer. The Republican party is also traditionally opposed to illegal immigration, drug legalization and government welfare programs.
Democrats on the other hand believe that the economy should work for everyone, that healthcare is a right, that diversity is our strength, and that democracy is worth defending. The Democrats typically favor a mixed economy and support a progressive tax system, higher minimum wages, social security, public education, and subsidized housing. Equal economic opportunity has long been the heart of Democratic economic policy, as well as a strong social safety net and strong labor unions.
The Republicans candidate for the 2024 presidential election is former President Donald J. Trump. Trump has promised to make America great again by putting our country first. His policies have promised to seal the border, carry out mass deportation, end inflation to make America more affordable, make America the dominant energy producer, stop outsourcing, make America a manufacturing superpower, give large tax cuts to workers with no tax on tips, defend the constitution, prevent a world war by restoring peace in Europe and the Middle East, stop the migrant crime epidemic and much more. Overall, Trump’s campaign pledges “big ideas, bold ambitions and daring dreams for America’s future.”
The Democratic candidate for the 2024 presidential election is current Vice President Kamala Harris. Harris believes in a new way forward that protects fundamental freedoms, strengthens democracy, and ensures the opportunity to not only get by but also get ahead. Harris grew up in a middle class home and believes that when the middle class is strong, America is strong. Building the middle class will be a defining goal of her presidency. Harris will also protect fundamental freedoms such as freedom to make your own choices about your body without government interference and to love who you love openly and proudly. Harris also promises to ensure safety by keeping communities safe from gun violence and crime, secure borders and fix the broken immigration system and to ensure nobody is above the law, including the president.
Both Presidential candidates have a lot to offer to the American people, and it is up to us to stay informed and vote for the candidate who best aligns with our views for our country. The election season, although highly contentious, is a very important time for our country, and it is ultimately up to our American voters to decide the future of our nation.
