Last year, Taylor Swift announced her newest album “The Tortured Poets Department” at the Grammys 66th annual awards show on Feb. 4. Swift releasing a brand new album while also being on tour wasn’t on many people’s bucket list. She has always been known to announce things without any warning.
She released the album on April 19 at midnight. Swift, always being unpredictable, released a double album at two in the morning called “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology” with an extra 15 songs. Many were upset that the album wouldn’t have a tour since she was already on one. Yet she already had something up her sleeve. On Paris night one she debuted the set for the album on tour and kept it for the rest of it. Many were starstruck with how amazing so many of the songs were performed. A fan favorite was the song “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.”
The album was incredible when discussing all emotions at once. The effort that Swift and her team put into it was well worth it. However, many didn’t agree with those same thoughts this year at the 67th Grammys.
Swift was nominated for six Grammys this year, Album of the Year “The Tortured Poets Department,” Best Pop Vocal Album “The Tortured Poets Department,” Song of the Year “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone, Record of the Year “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone, Best Music Video “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance “Us.” with Gracie Abrams.
Even though Swift was nominated for six Grammys, sadly, she walked out without winning a single category, which for many was very wrong. When Beyoncé won Album of the Year, many people speculated it was just because of what happened at last year’s award show. Swift was a presenter this year for the Best Country Album of the Year, which was won by none other than Beyoncé. Her winning this category has been a big controversy in the music world.
Many believe that Billie Eillish and Swift were snubbed of many awards because of how well-written their albums are. Fans explain on many social media platforms how Eillish and Swift’s albums are so much higher on the charts than Beyoncé’s album “Cowboy Carter” has.
Everyone is hoping that in the future the awards focus on people’s charting and performance should be taken into consideration instead of “handing” them out because of what happened in the past.
