On Monday, April 28, Saegertown Jr./Sr. High School hosted their first ever Community Engagement Night. Across PENNCREST School District, Community Engagement Nights have been held as a way for parents, students and school board members alike to learn more about what clubs and activities are available at each school.
Here at SHS, student representatives from Student Council, National Honor Society, Key Club, Young Conservatives Club, Campus Club, Math and Science Club, yearbook, journalism, the music program and the potential new travel club presented information.
Each club’s table had information about their club for visitors to learn more about what each group does within the school. Some clubs brought pictures, t-shirts, displays and more. Along with the information about groups, Key Club, Student Council, YCC and Campus Club also had the donations they recently collected for Post 52 on display.
Senior Kaylee Reynolds and junior Brady Williams were also present to represent the music program. Williams played the keyboard while Reynolds sang as guests visited each booth.
Following the visit to the booths, guests and school board members moved into the auditorium to listen to a formal presentation about Saegertown Jr./Sr. High School.
The presentation began with principal Dr. Howick introducing some of the newest updates that have been made to the school building, including our newest addition to the gym mural donated by the Classes of 2025 and 2026. Following Dr. Howick, assistant athletic director Mr. Greco gave a short review of some of our most recent athletic accomplishments.
Senior Camden Gjovik followed Greco with information on both the yearbook and Student Council, both of which she is the president of. Yearbook has recently honored the Cannon brothers, Steve Scott, Scott Bidwell as well as their families at a boys basketball game where honorary yearbooks were gifted to each family. Throughout the year, Student Council has achieved many accomplishments including spirit weeks, dances, fundraisers, The Panther Cup and the introduction of grade level representatives.
Dr. Howick then returned to highlight some of the other clubs and programs such as Math and Science Club and the art program which has painted many new murals through the last few years.
Music teacher Ms. Lyons was the last speaker before Dr. Howick wrapped up the presentation. Ms. Lyons discussed the accomplishments that students have made in the music program, the formation of the pep band, and her future plans for the program.
Following the presentation, school board members returned to the stage to answer any questions that audience members might have. Overall the first community engagement night was a success.
