“Everything that can go wrong during filming, has gone wrong.”
After the success of “Planet of the Dead” and the artistic test run of “Kingsly,” I decided it was time to take to the theaters again and put out my first feature film, and my last high school movie endeavor.
The project “Eye of the Serpent” represents the next evolution in Jacob Perrett films. It follows the story of five criminals being pursued by a skewed authority figure known as Sheriff Kent. The five have come together to form what they consider to be a family, with the infamous drug lord and leader known as the “Rattlesnake” being at the head of the table.
The film is a lot like a Quentin Tarantino-Jacob Perrett mashup. It is most certainly the most action packed film I’ve ever written, but it is very much my own piece and my own writing. I like to create interesting plots that somehow have ties to emotions or experiences I’ve had sometime in my lifetime. For “Eye of the Serpent” I wanted to make a movie that was fun to watch.
Filming the feature was spread over the course of three months, and with a cast full of high school students, it was very difficult to work around schedules. “There were a lot of late nights and long days, but it was an experience I will always remember when I look back on my senior year,” said Ben Courson, a Saegertown student and secondary character in the film. It seems as though during the filming of “Planet of the Dead” everything got done so smoothly. This was not the case with this movie. Late school nights are bad enough, but add a dead car battery, a stranded cast, and filming with fake firearms in the inner city to the mix, and you have a recipe for disaster. But I had an amazing experience making this film, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
“Eye of the Serpent” premieres June 9 at 7 p.m. at the Movies at Meadville. Tickets are $2.00 each and a hangout with the cast will take place after the debut. The viewing will take place in the biggest theater in the house, so make sure to invite all family and friends for this one time experience.
