At the beginning of the season, the Saegertown golf team was in doubt of not winning the region title. In response, the Panthers dominated by winning four of six region mega-matches and claiming their record eighth straight Region 3 title.
At the District 10 Team Championship, which was held at the Meadville Country Club on Oct. 4, the course played tough for the Panthers, ending their season.
Senior Nick Archacki and sophomore Dylan Flinchbaugh qualified for the District 10 Individual Championships. Archacki and Flinchbaugh’s total for their round contributed to both the individual and team championship. Archacki’s score of 92 wasn’t enough to make the cut for the second day of individual competition, but Flinchbaugh’s score of 81 was.
Flinchbaugh, the Region 4 Player of the Year runner-up, took full advantage of the opportunity by shooting an 86 the second day of qualifying and sneaking his way into the Western Regional Individual Championship by one stroke. By qualifying for regionals, this was the fifth consecutive year that a Saegertown golfer made it past districts.
On Oct. 15, Flinchbaugh competed at the Western Regional Championship. He played well the whole day, staying at four over par after the first nine holes, which included seven straight pars and a score of 38. Flinchbaugh was in good standing to stay within the cut, but by encountering a tough hole at the end of the round, he missed the cut by one stroke with a total of 80. “I’m pleased with my performance,” Flinchbaugh said. He is already focused on the future: “My goal for next year is to play to the best of my ability, and hopefully make it to states.”
