Freshman Kylie Beck recently traveled to California to take part in National American Miss. Beck competed in several events, including formal wear, interview, introduction, and final pageant.
“I feel I performed the best I ever have, and I left my heart out on the stage,” Beck said. Going into the pageant, she felt confident and excited, but she didn’t realize how young she was in comparison to the other competitors. “Once I saw the other girls, I realized I had to step up my game because they were all older than me.”
Although Beck didn’t make it through the first round of elimination, which was the top 12 girls, she was awarded second runner-up for best resume for her academic and community experiences.
“Whenever they called the last girl, and it wasn’t ‘Pennsylvania’ I closed my eyes for more than a blink because at that moment I realized all of my hard work didn’t pay off,” Beck said. She will continue as Miss Pennsylvania Junior Teen until she gives up her crown in August 2020.
