We have finally got a second Mario movie after “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” in 2022. Fans were highly excited for “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” with trailers and character reveals generating significant buzz online. The movie has mixed reviews, praised for its animation and fan service but criticized for shallow character development and rushed pacing.
Freshman Kaiya Levesque voiced her thoughts on the movie. “It was a good movie, and it had a lot of action. It was definitely a movie that kept people on the edge of their seats.”
“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” follows Mario and Luigi as they embark on a mission across the stars to stop Bowser Jr., who is determined to free his father from prison and restore the family’s legacy. The film introduces a new companion called Princess Rosalina, who is kidnapped by Bowser Jr. The brothers, along with Yoshi, protect the Mushroom Kingdom in Peach’s absence and work to rehabilitate Bowser.
In my opinion, the Super Mario Galaxy movie was a 9/10. The animation was amazing; it was also very vibrant. I would recommend the movie for younger ages and as a family-friendly movie. It was action-packed, and I was never bored while watching the movie.
There are mixed reviews about the movie, some saying it was a fun and enjoyable experience, while others say the plot is scattered. The Guardian called it “worse than AI,” while Empire called it a “humorless, hysterical trudge.” It’s been vilified even more than the first Mario movie, which film critics also hated.
In spite of poor reviews, the film did exceptionally well at the box office, helping the Nintendo film franchise profit over 2 billion at the global box office.
Furthermore, Foundation Worldview says the movie has “beautiful themes of family and self-sacrifice. Woven throughout the movie is the theme of loving your family, longing to be known and accepted by them, and the beauty of self-sacrifice.”
Saegertown sophomore Anna Bradshaw, for one, was not especially interested in the film. “I don’t really care for it,” she said when asked if she’d watch it. “It’s not my kind of movie.
The cast includes Mario voiced by Chris Pratt, Luigi voiced by Charlie Day, Princess Peach voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy, Princess Rosalina voiced by Brie Larson, and Bowser voiced by Jack Black. Bowser Jr. was voiced by Benny Safdie, and Yoshi was voiced as Donald Glover.
