This year, a handful of students went with Mrs. Peters and Mr. Greco to plant trees for the Envirothon.
What is Envirothon? It is North America’s largest high school environmental education competition, where students (grades 9-12) compete in teams, testing their knowledge of natural resource management, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Envirothon teaches students how to build teamwork and be an active part of the community.
Teams of 3–5 students study throughout the year to compete at local, state, and international levels in five core subjects: aquatic ecology, forestry, soils/land use, wildlife, and a changing annual environmental issue.
“We won first place, second place, and third place,” Mr. Greco reported. The first-place team included Megan Yurisic, Emma Spencer, Jace Digiacomo, Abby Rockwell, and Camryn Harakal, who had the opportunity to attend the state event in Mifflinburg, PA.
Amazing job to the students who went, and thank you to the advisers. Without you, the students of Saegertown High School would not have these amazing memories.
